1. You save a life
All animals in our sanctuary are in need of a second chance. They have been lost, given up or abandoned. You are giving them a new life in a loving home.
2. You help break the cycle of pet overpopulation
There are not enough homes for all the animals that are born every year in Greece. Adopting from a rescue facility helps weaken the pet overpopulation cycle. Each year thousands of animals in Greece are poisoned or euthanised because there are simply not enough homes for them. Unfortunately, the Greek financial crisis has been making the situation for animals in Greece even worse.
3. You help stop cruelty in mass breeding facilities
There are many commercial pet-breeding facilities producing animals for sale in pet stores. Many animals come to Greece also from kitten or puppy mills abroad; facilities where female cats or dogs are repeatedly impregnated, spending their entire lives in cages without human companionship and in intolerable environments. Adopting a shelter cat means you don’t support such cruel practices.
4. You take advantage of adopting an adult animal
Adult pets are great! Our cats are already house trained so you won’t have to deal with the “kitten faze” or learning them to use the litter. You will be able to see the personality of the adult cat right away.
5. You get a support from experienced sanctuary staff
People who work at our sanctuary will be a great resource to help you find information or resources for your cat. Our staff members work with our kitties every day and have a wealth of information on many different issues.
6. You choose from a great selection of cats
Our sanctuary offers a variety of cats, from small kittens to adults, as well as cats with various characters and specific features. Our cats are suitable for single people, families or seniors. We have short and long hair cats, in many different colours. Some of our beauties have hair smooth as the silk!
7. You adopt a pet who has received good care
All our cats are well taken care of. They are well behaved, well fed, fully vaccinated, neutered/spayed and used to live indoors. We collaborate with local vets who assist us with health care issues and concerns.
8. You support a valuable charity and community institution
When you adopt a pet from our sanctuary, you assist the non-profit organization "Let's be S.M.A.R.T." to keep on pursuing its mission in Greece. Existence of our organization & operation of the sanctuary significantly contributes locally and at the same time is a part of wide community promoting and advocating for animal rights and animal well-being in Greece.
9. You pay less
We don't charge adoption fees. Moreover, in cases we need to make space in our sanctuary in order to take more new kitties in, we offer to pay for transportation when our cats are adopted abroad.
10. You encourage others to adopt rescued animals
When your friends ask where you got your amazing pet, you can tell them “at the sanctuary in Greece.” Your adoption may encourage others to do the same and help Greek kitties to find forever loving homes they deserve.
