Poppy (05/2021), Female

Hi, I'm Poppy – A Shy Ginger Girl Looking for My Forever Home.I’ve got some pretty rare coloring for a lady like me – most ginger cats are boys! But enough about my looks – let me tell you a little bit about myself.

I used to live in a family’s garden, along with a few other friends. We weren’t really strays, but not exactly house cats either – kind of in between, I guess you could say. The family was really kind to us, giving us plenty of yummy biscuits, fresh water, and cuddles whenever we wanted them. It was a good life, but then something changed. The family had to move far away, and sadly, we couldn’t go with them. That’s when they reached out to a wonderful animal welfare organization, and I was lucky enough to be taken in along with my friends. Now, I’m on a new journey, hoping to find the loving home I truly deserve.

I have to admit, I can be pretty shy at first. I’m not too comfortable around a lot of cats, and loud noises or sudden movements make me feel nervous. But if you’re patient with me, you’ll see that I’m actually really sweet. I love having a few good friends, both humans and cats, and I’ll stick with them once I feel safe.

If you approach me slowly, I’ll let you give me pets, and after I trust you, you can even pick me up! I like to hide my face in your arms, almost like I need to convince myself that I like it – but don’t worry, I really do! You just have to give me a little time.

My favorite spot is the balcony, where I can lie in the sun and feel the warmth on my golden fur. I feel so happy and safe when I can sunbathe like that. When it comes to food, I enjoy wet food, but I won’t make a fuss about it. I just like the simple things – feeling secure, having a quiet space to retreat to, and spending time with people and animals I trust.

I do get overwhelmed sometimes by other cats, so I keep to myself a lot, but I do have a few buddies I like to hang out with. I’ve been seen spending time with Petey, another kitty here at the shelter. When I was put in isolation for a few days, I wasn’t happy and wanted to get back to the others, so I think I’d be happiest either as the only cat in a home with someone who can give me attention or maybe with just one calm kitty friend.

So, if you’re someone who has a calm home and can give me the time and patience I need to come out of my shell, I promise I’ll show you what a tender sweetheart I can be. I may be cautious, but once I feel secure, I’ll be your best friend and companion for life.

Poppy was adopted abroad and she travelled to her forever home in October 2024.
